Of Water And Writing

I snuck off to Las Vegas. My hubby had a conference and, well, after falling off a ladder and getting sick I thought I deserved a few days lounging by the pool. Riiiiight. ‘Cause my life’s so tough…(that’s sarcasm, by the way).

Got a book at the airport. It’s written by one of the coolest women on the planet. Her name is Linda Greenlaw. If you saw the movie The Perfect Storm or read the book, you know her. You just may not know you know her. Greenlaw was the female swordboat captain of the Hannah Boden, the sister ship to the Andrea Gayle (the one that went missing during The Perfect Storm). I can’t remember who played Greenlaw in the film, but there was only one female captain, so that was her.

I read Greenlaw’s previous books The Hungry Ocean and The Lobster Chronicles. You can probably tell from the titles what the books were about. This one, Slipknot, is a departure. It’s a fictional murder mystery set in Maine. The price of the book seems high – it’s a very small hardcover and costs $24.95 – but I admire Greenlaw, so I got it. Will let you know what I think.

  1. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio was the actress who played her in The Perfect Storm. Loved The Lobster Chronicles. Nice to hear from a practical woman in a demanding job who doesn’t wear Prada and drinks her beer with her elbows on the bar. Let us know what good things come next.

  2. I loved that movie but didn’t realize there was a book about it. Ms. Greenlaw sounds like a fascinating woman.

  3. Wish I could sneak off to Vegas. I’ll get one of her books today and see how I like it. Will let you know.

  4. I hope your trip to Vegas was relaxing enough to make up for that nasty fall and being sick!

  5. HI! I always get confused on blogs! So technically a spaz. I’ve never been to Vegas, but hope your time there was fun. It’s always great to hear about new authors & books, so thanks for the tip!!

  6. Vegas is awesome. The temperature is 109 – which is ridiculous – but it is super relaxing here.
