A New Obsession

I’ve been stalking the Downtown Press Website.  Something about this line interests me.  I’m a fan of trade paperbacks.  I like the woman-on-a-journey concept.  I’m thinking the packaging is a big part of what’s luring me in.  What’s happened a few times is this:  I go into a bookstore, see some covers I really like, then turn the books over and find the Downtown Press logo.  Kind of wish I knew what it was grabbing my attention so I could then figure out how to make sure my books do the same.

Here are some examples:

Vamped Vamped- So this vampire walks into a bar…Yes, it sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but it’s just another night in the never-ending life of Marty Kowalski. With his trademark slogan — "There’s a sucker born every minute" — this blood-drinking bachelor has managed to talk half the mortal world into joining the graveyard shift. Now vampires outnumber humans, and Marty is so bored he could die — again.

Confessions Confessions of a Nervous Shiksa- When movie studio publicity V.P. Alexis Manning’s fiancĂ© — Jewish bartender/actor David a.k.a. Deke — goes home with her for a holly jolly Christmas in Vermont with her family, there’s a chill in the air and it ain’t just the weather.

I agree. The covers are great! And that vampire blurb had me rolling. Going to have to check out this line. Thanks for the heads up, HelenKay!

The art is catchy. I’m with Beth on Vamped. I read the excerpt and LOVED it. I’ll pick it up this weekend if it’s out.

I also like this line. I enjoyed the Shari Shattuck book, but I also liked the first one (with reservations) and had always hoped for a sequel so I was happy to hear that Downtown Press had picked her up.

I read one other trade by this publisher a few months ago and it was also good but I can’t recall the name…

I’ll have to look up Vamped!
