More Silhouette News

In case you missed it:

Beginning February 2007, Silhouette Intimate Moments is changing its name to Silhouette Romantic Suspense. The books will have new covers, a new length (60,000 - 65,000 words or 240 - 260 manuscript pages) and an even stronger emphasis on romance. For more information, see the guidelines.

With or without the new name and new look, I am betting the following two questions will be asked 600 or 700 times at the RWA conference in Atlanta this July:

1. What is the difference between Harlequin Intrigue and Silhouette Romantic Suspense (formerly Silhouette Intimate Moments)

2. What is the exact percentage of romance to suspense in HI versus SRS.

As much as I would like for these questions to be banished forever I know they won’t be.

I thought I’d read somewhere that the emphasis of the ‘new’ line was on suspense. Hmm… Of course, I may be making that up. ;)

I just read the guidelines the other day, Jordan, and the emphasis is on the romance. Unless *I* made that up!

  3. Nicole Says:

Um, what IS the difference between Intrigue and IM? I always thought Intrigue had way more suspense than IM.

hee my question was going to be what nicole said ;)

I now believe Silhouette changed the line’s title to confuse us even more. ::big sigh:: Seems to me, the line between SIM and HI just got more blurry. Used to be, in my view, that SIM and HI had different vibes. Some HI could have been SIM, but the reverse wasn’t always true. Also, the old SIM actually didn’t require a suspense element at all. I’m guessing the new Romantic Suspense title is viewed as more marketable than Intimate Moments, which does sound a bit like a commercial for a feminine hygiene products.

What always made me chuckle was the expression on Denise Sullivan’s face (she’s the main editor for HI) when someone asked her the percentage question. Her eyes would cross a bit, then she’d inhale, then she’d explain that the percentage thing was crap. I’ll let you know what facial expressions she makes and what the answers are post-RWA. I’m betting the questions about HI and SRS will be asked over and over until my eyes cross.

Like I said Cindy, I was probably making that up. *g* I also think I misunderstood Alison Kent’s post on this subject. Wouldn’t be the first time and doubt it’ll be the last. Sigh.
