They – whoever “they” is – say book sales don’t happen in summer. That’s not right as far as I can tell. Here are some examples of the utter wrongness of that theory.
For those who love Eloisa James, here’s some book sale news that should make you happy:
FICTION: WOMEN’S/ROMANCE
THE LIST, which brings together three NYT bestselling authors, Julia Quinn, Connie Brockway, and Eloisa James in a humorous, sexy tale of a nobleman handed a list of potential brides, but told that with his reputation, he’s unlikely to win any of them. He discovers that winning a woman’s hand may not be the problem, but desiring to kiss it – and keep her – is another story, to Lucia Macro at Avon, in a good deal, by Kimberly Witherspoon and David Forrer at
Inkwell Management for James, and Steve Axelrod and Damaris Rowland at Rowland & Axelrod, for Quinn and Brockway (NA).
FICTION: WOMEN’S/ROMANCE
Eloisa James’ DESPERATE DUTCHESSES, a mix of wit and scandal, about a group of wild duchesses and the wilder games they play, from high stakes chess to strip dominoes, to Lucia Macro at Avon, in a major deal, in a multi-book deal, by Kimberly Witherspoon and David Forrer at Inkwell Management (NA).
In the “why have I never heard of this woman” category, here’s an impressive deal:
FICTION: WOMEN’S/ROMANCE
ANNIE FREEMAN’S FABULOUS TRAVELING FUNERAL and forthcoming THE SUNDAY LIST OF DREAMS author Kris Radish’s next three novels, continuing her exploration of female friendship, personal transformation, empowerment, and support through life’s challenges, ranging from coping with loss to discovering that your estranged daughter is running a sex toy shop in Manhattan, again to Kate Miciak at Bantam Dell, in a major deal, for seven figures, by Ellen Geiger at Frances Goldin Literary Agency (world English).

Congrats on your debut novella HelenKay. I read the excerpts on VIVA and thought it they were great! So I added it to my TBR pile.

by Earlene Gillespie July 25th, 2006 at 10:39 amJust wanted to stop by and say hello. The newsletter is pretty good. Lots of info on your books and other stuff of interest.
Love your website! Thanks for the heads up on Eloisa James!
Good luck!
by Kay Monte July 25th, 2006 at 10:41 amCongrats on the releases again Helen!
by Cathie July 25th, 2006 at 12:28 pmYep some impressive authors! Love Eoiisa james’ books. I love reading in the summer! I think between this and winter, I read the most!
I’ve picked up “When Good Things Happen…” and it’s now in my every growing to-be-read pile. I’m looking forward to the day I actually get to it (I have to make my way thru the books I’ve borrowed from the library first!).
Being an avid reader, I don’t understand why book sales would be down in the summer… kids not in school… vacations… just seems to me that there are more opportunities to read during the summer.
by Jennifer K. July 25th, 2006 at 5:08 pmI dont understand that either. Especially with people going away on vacation and to the beach.
by Pat July 25th, 2006 at 10:19 pmHello everyone! I actually think books are selling at the bookstores. Man, I hope they are since VIVA LAS BAD BOYS! came out yesterday!! What I was referring to is the theory that editors don’t buy new books (to publish in the future) from authors during the summer because editors are too busy with vacations, etc. These author sales suggest editors are hard at work and buying this summer – which is good news for readers and authors.
by HelenKay July 26th, 2006 at 6:08 amSales do happen in the summer. Besides I do more reading in the summer as it is too hot to do much else. I am prone to heat stroke so spend little time outside except to spend with my animals.
by Jane Squires July 26th, 2006 at 10:55 amI have not read your book yet that I have but I will. Have a good time at conference.
In my opinion are June/July as well as November/December the months were the most books will be released. I guess the reason is that you can spend a lot of time reading, either in the yard or at the beach
by Danny July 26th, 2006 at 11:30 amGood luck with Viva and have fun at the conference.
by Helen Mac July 26th, 2006 at 10:55 pmCongrats on the release!! I want to run to a bookstore now! That happens often at 2:45 in the morning being on the net looking at your books!
by Cathie July 27th, 2006 at 1:49 amIt seems to me no matter what it is, there are always new books coming out that I want.
by Karen T. July 28th, 2006 at 3:19 pmHaven’t read any of your books yet but plan on doing so soon. I will be laid up for awhile with my leg so will have plenty of time and I do love to read. Hope you have a great summer.
