Anyone Read Zane?

Zane she’s a NYT bestselling author, founder of the publishing house Strebor Books International (distributed by Simon and Schuster), editor and publisher, successful businesswoman, winner of the NAACP 2006 Image Award for Outstanding Fiction, a huge voice and force in erotica…and only 40 years old. That past part makes my head spin. Her book Addicted is being made into a movie and will be out in May 2007.

Before the erotic romance craze hit with all of these new publishing lines and imprints, I’d heard of Zane. Hadn’t read her books because erotica was a bit off my radar screen but knew about her. She lives in the DC metro area and has been spotlighted in the Washington Post, most recently in September in an article about her take on “speed dating” which she calls “freak dating” - check out the article here.

Either I’m more aware of her now or bookstores are because her titles seem to be all over the trade paperback tables at B&N all of a sudden. Maybe they always were and I missed them. Maybe they were hidden in the AA section before and with the erotica craze have taken a spot at the front of the store. Don’t know. I have a theory that has to do with AA literature not being taken seriously, but…

Here are a few covers:

Anyone read her? Is she romance oriented or pure erotica? If you read erotica and haven’t tried her, why not (not judging - just wondering)? I haven’t read much erotica, in part because the way the publishers package and market it lately turns me off, but can anyone recommend a title if I wanted to try one?

I’ve never read anything by Zane but I’ve heard of her books for years, before I started reading the really hot stuff. I was always more wary, but now it’s become more mainstream. I think I would read it, as long as it was more what Ellora’s Cave refers to as “romantica”. I’m a little old-fashioned in that sense. Obviously Zane has captured an audience that is out there, waiting for her kinds of stories.

I’ve read both those books, Pat L, and actually my personal opinion is that they are rather tame compared to the really erotic romances that are out there, and I wouldn’t classify them as erotica because there is the HEA in every story. Janice & LuAnn are two of my favorite authors because they write sexy romances, but keep in touch with the romance instead of the sex. I like the hot stuff, but sometimes I just want a really great romance, you know? Something emotionally fulfilling.

Sounds like good reading for a chilly fall night.

Thanks for you reply Stacy. I figured they would not be classified as erotica but had to ask. I read one Thea Devine, Emma Holly and B. Small and those were too erotic for my taste.

I’ve heard of Zane for years, but never thought to pick any of them up. My library has a bunch, I believe.

I’d heard of Zane a few years ago, but I’ve never read her books, because they were described to me as being about heroines in destructive relationships (with lots of hot sex) eventually getting smart and ditching the guy, ending up single with no sex, which is not my idea of a happy ending. Also I don’t really want to read about bad relationships. I want to read about hot sex in good relationships, where the girl ends up with the guy and lots of hot sex in the end.

Of course, it may be that her type of story is nothing like what was described to me. I should probably take a look for myself.

    Sounds like a good book.

I’ve read one, but I can’t remember which. I don’t think it was Addicted. Oh, The Heatseekers maybe? It was steeped in AA cultural, lingo, attitude, etc., and I did like her writing, but I didn’t find it particularly erotic.

  17. Tara Woods Says:

I’ve read a few of her books. They are quite steamy. Definitely not for the faint of heart or those who don’t like erotica. I love her books.

  18. Christy Says:

I’ve read NERVOUS and I really enjoyed it. I didn’t know about ADDICTED being made into a movie, but now that I do (thanks), I’ll definitely plan on seeing it.

I love all of Zane’s books, they leave you feeling very stimulated and ready to f#@# your husband. It’s like being mind f$#@ed and I love every minute of it, especially “Chocolate Flava”, She really gets to your psyche with her books.
