Someone New
Author Lara Adrian stopped by to comment this week. Me being me - nosy - I saw the link and went over. She has a series coming out from Bantam Dell called Midnight Breeds. She describes it this way on her site:
What is the Midnight Breed? You won’t find coffins, crosses, or pasty white undead vampires here. Breed warriors are 110% living, breathing, deadly alpha male. Part human, part otherworldly, the vampire race has existed among humankind for thousands of years, maintaining a tentative peace built on secrecy, the enforcement of Breed law–and failing either of those, the dark justice carried out by the members of the formidable warrior class.
Her covers are up. Loved them. Something about them popped for me. Now, I admit to being a bit weary when it comes to paranormals, but look at these:
Good luck, Lara!

The cover art is interesting, but honestly, my first thought was ::yawn:: no more uber-vampires, please. JR Ward fills that need pretty decently, thank you. Not sure *why* I clicked the link anyways. But I read the excerpt and that sold me. I’m willing to check out the first book at least. Author voice will always squeeze a sale out of me.

They sound a little too much like The Black Dagger Brotherhood for my tastes. Even the covers are startlingly similar. I might pick one up used or check it out of the library if there’s good word of mouth, but still…too close to Ward’s work.

HelenKay!! Thank you so much for mentioning my books! ::blushing:: You absolutely made my day.
Jaq and Carrie, thanks for taking a look. Glad you liked the excerpt, Jaq! Once my website rolls out (it’s in the hands of a designer, so pardon the amateur look I’ve got going on right now), I’ll have further excerpts and information about the series.

I enjoy paranormal books.

I have to say, I got to read an ARC of KOM, and I didn’t find it to be too JR Ward at all! But then, if it was, I’d have enjoyed it anyway since I’ve fallen into the JR Ward fangirl trap. I can’t help it, I love her books! *g*
Lara’s KOM was richly written, very detailed, dark, and I LOVED her hero. I’m wary of vamps because they are always the same old, same old, but Lara kept me from rolling my eyes. I appreciate that in an author.
