I frequently see a cover and try to remember where I saw one just like that recently. I had one of those moments when checking out Marjorie Liu’s cover for Soul Song, a July ‘07 release. The cover sent me searching because it reminded me of one I just saw somewhere. That’s when I remembered the cover for Wild Thing, an anthology by Maggie Shayne, Marjorie Liu, Alyssa Day and Meljean Brook.
I’m not alone, right? These two look the same and share an author…right? But, I swear I’ve seen this photo on another cover. Just can’t remember where.

Jaid Black’s “Deep, Dark and Dangerous”. I think it’s actually the same shot as Marjorie’s, just with a different background.

I toted that cover around DC for a week, looking for a necklace to match the one the guy on the Showalter cover was wearing. I don’t think he looks like these guys at all. Perhaps it’s hard to tell, but my jpg didn’t have the “showalter” running across the dude’s face, as the final cover does, and he looks NOTHING like these fellows. His eyes and nose are very different.
It’s not the same person.

If this is the same guy, huge congrats to HQN for putting the cover together so it doesn’t look exactly like these two and every other one out there. I wish more publishers would do that. If it’s a different guy – and, like Diana, I think it is – then I want to know just where all of these hot dark guys are hanging out when they’re not posing for these covers.
And, yeah, I checked out the Jaid Black cover. That one is WOWZA similar to the cover of Lui’s upcoming release.
