On LuAnn McLane
A couple weeks back I gave away some books (by other authors) and asked anyone who received one to give a little feedback. Many of you answered the call. Thank you!!
First up is Cheryl Strange’s write-up of DANCING SHOES AND HONKY TONK BLUES by LuAnn McLane…
Dancing Shoes and Honky-Tonk Blues is Ms. McLane’s second release of a romance comedy written in first person. She’s written it so well, that I am definitely going in search of her first book in this line – Dark Roots and Cowboy Boots. I’m also now anxiously anticipating the next –Trick My Truck But Don’t Mess with My Heart.
Ms. McLane’s writing allowed me to experience the challenges and triumphs right along with Abby on her adventures in her journey to master ballroom dancing. Abby’s brother has volunteered her, along with other townspeople, as a contestant in a comedy spoof of reality tv shows being shot in their hometown of Misty Creek. Somewhere along the way, though, the laugh is on the production company as Dancing with the Rednecks turns into a serious competition with the hard-working country folk giving their all as they compete for the $50,000 prize.
Ms. McLane did not allow me to sit back and be a passive onlooker to this engaging story – oh, definitely not. I became part of the staff of the Rabbit Run Lodge, assisting the contestants during their stay. I was one of the judges critiquing the dancers’ techniques. I was one of the many family and friends in the crowd, cheering on Abby and Rio – on the dance floor and in their developing relationship. By the end of the book, I was Abby’s friend; commiserating with her over a deep disappointment or celebrating along with her as she cleared one more hurdle. I had read Ms. McLane’s debut anthology, Hot Summer Nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although Dancing Shoes and Honky-Tonk Blues is written in a completely different style - it is just as well-written and just as enjoyable as that first book. Thank you, HelenKay, for allowing me the chance to read it.
Thank you, Cheryl!!! Great job. I would add that LuAnn’s writing career got a huge push a few years back from Lori Foster’s Brava Novella Contest. LuAnn was one of the first finalists. Brava picked up that finalist novella and published it in the Brava anthology Wildest Dreams.
Anyone else read LuAnn?

Yes, I do - I love her work - Hot Summer Nights, Wild Ride, Dark Roots and Cowboy Boots - given to me courtesy of Miss HKD and luanne’s novella in Wildest Dreams. I have Love, Lust and Pixie Dust on my tbr. Have to get my hands on Dancing Shoes….
Nice review, Cheryl - thanks for sharing.

I have Luann’s books and loved them. I actually read Dark Roots and Cowboy Boots and loved it, but I have held off getting it, because I will be attending the Lori Foster Reader/Author Get Together and I plan on getting a hopefully autographed copy there. I also read her book Hot Summer Nights, very steamy. After reading this review, I don’t know if I will be able to wait until June to get a copy.
FYI I haven’t done my review yet, because I haven’t received my book. LOL

Pat - Happy you liked it. I actually met LuAnn at RT this year. She’s very charming. I love when I connect with an author through her book then meet her and like her in person as well.
Patty - Sorry about that. I finally got the last bunch out. You should have it by the end of the week. Believe it or not, the delay was due to a lack of mailing envelopes on my end. How sad is that? It is official that I am completely useless for anything other than writing when I’m on a deadline. You should see how dirty my house is

I adore LuAnn, she’s a doll. She’s very sweet, and it’s cute how she blushes even though she writes these really sexy stories. I’ve read all her stuff except this one, but it’s in my tbr pile. Hey Patti, I’ll be at the get-together too. Have you been before?
I got your email HelenKay with the info on the mailing. I really appreciate how generous you were to give away so many books - thank you again.

Just so you know, HelenKay, I will be going away on Tues for a week, so the book will probably be waiting for me when I get back.
Patty L, where are you from? It is still so funny seeing my name on the sites and it is NOT me. LOL. My family and one of my friends call me Patty.
