MySpace: The Witch Edition
My Ode to MySpace is a day late. Blame the holiday. That’s my plan.
Unlike seemingly every other romance author on the planet, I don’t write paranormals. The only otherworldly route I would even think of taking as a writer would be to write about witches. Not gonna, but I do like reading paranormals with witches and, at least right now, there aren’t 4 billion of them on the shelves. So, in recognition of my hidden witch adoration, I give you these books from MySpace:
First up is Witch in the House by Jenna McKnight.
I haven’t read McKnight but I like the cover and am intrigued by the copy.:
What if. . . all it takes is a bit of magic to find the man of your dreams? Jade Delarue knows just the spell. In a matter of hours, there’s a gorgeous man at the sexy witch’s door, asking to move in. But private detective Mason Kincaid isn’t looking for love. Recently jilted by his last girlfriend, he’s there on official business, and he’s determined that not even the blizzard raging outside Jade’s house–or her spellbinding beauty–can distract him.
And what if . . . right after Mr. Dream Come True arrives, you discover you made a mistake? It’s awfully hard for Mason to work his case with Jade’s casting new spells every day to send him away. There are charms to spare in Mystic Manor, showing Mason that the witch in the house might be the woman he’s been waiting for. Convincing her, though, means coming up with a little magic of his own.
Second is a witch-themed book by a bestselling author who usually writes contemporary romance. The book is Over Hexed by Vicki Lewis Thompson.
No nerds here, but an interesting premise. The publisher describes it like this:
Dorcas and Ambrose are matchmaking sex therapists for witches and warlocks. Now they’re doing it for mere mortals-although the handsome Sean Madigan is kind of an Adonis. Until Dorcas and Ambrose strip him of his sex appeal and introduce him to his destiny, Maggie Grady. This time winning a girl’s heart won’t be so easy for Sean. It means rediscovering the charms buried beneath the surface. But what a surface!
What do you think?

Both sound really good. I’ve just gotten into paranormal books in the last year and I’m always looking for new books to try. Will add both to my TBB pile.

Just when I think I’ve gotten over paranormals, I get sucked back in…oh what the heck, I’m really not complaining. As long as the story is good, I’m pretty much willing to give anything a try. Money well spent when you think I could be gambling with it instead….reading is a bit less risky.

Not the least bit interested in paranormal or witches. But everyone to their own taste.

Thanks Jane Ann! I love it when people read my book
And, I agree with some of the paranormal fatigue expressed here but have you guys read a lot of witch stories? I haven’t so I’m still open to them. Maybe it’s my appreciation for the tv show CHARMED.

Yes why is it that when one type of book become3s a best seller, so many authors seem to think they just have to change and write some in the same vein.
Surely authors are better at one type of novel than at another ?
Or is this just sucumbing to pressure from their publishers ?

I love VLT’s writing so I’ll follow over to “Overhexed”. I’ll give their new genre attempt one go. Julie Leto is coming out with a witch book. There definitely seems to be a trend in that direction.
I wonder like Carol, if it’s the authors choice or a push from their publishers.
