The Day After

I just turned in a single title. This one will be out in November ‘08. Sounds far away but it’s really not in publishing land. At this point, my brain is in that mushy swiss cheese state. Not attractive.

While I gather my six brain cells together to form a sentence, I thought I’d pass on the information about the Four Hot Authors For Fall as set out in Entertainment Weekly. Alison already reviewed one of these books here which proves Alison is a woman in the know. The authors are:

*The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz - Described as: “The stunning story follows a Dominican ghetto nerd growing up fat and lonely in Patterson, N.J. (Díaz’ own hometown), struggling to beat the generations-long curse that has plagued his doomed family.”

*Before I Die by Jenny Downham - A debut novel about “…16-year-old Tessa, who is dying of leukemia and wants to cram a lifetime of experience…”

*Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures by Vincent Lam - “…a collection of 12 linked stories about aspiring physicians…”

*Heartsick by Chelsea Cain - “…a well-wrought thriller starring a deliciously creepy female serial killer.”

I have Heartsick. Not sure if I’m loving the others.

You really should try the Dias novel. It is one of the funniest and sexiest thing I’ve read.

Okay, I canNOT keep up. I thought the book you turned in in May was your Nov 08 release. I seriously need a calendar.

XuXi - The Diaz book is funny? You sure? It sounds super serious.

Alison - You have not lost your mind. The book I turned in a few months ago (”The May Book”), one set in Kauai like YMDMC, was going to be my November ‘08 release. Then I decided I would like the next two Kauai based books to go back to back. So, after a chat with our Brava editor, I switched books around. The single title I just turned in is now the November ‘08 release - it’s not related to any other book I’ve done and is set in Utah, not Kauai. The book I previously turned in (The May Book) plus the next single title I plan to write (Josh’s story) will come out in 2009. Make sense…or did I just make that more confusing?

Ahhhhhh. Yes. I am now clear on the concept. ;)

I’d try the Diaz book, Bloodletting and Heartsick (I’m super-excited about that one) but the Before I Die one? Eeeeek. No thanks to that.

The Diaz book and Heartsick sound ok, but I’m not sure about the others.

I have been insane about getting my hands on Heart Sick since I read about it on Alison Kent’s blog! I have it now but I also have a huge review pile and no time to read it yet. Hopefully I will get to it soon. It sounds fantastic!!!!!

  10. Susan Says:

Heartsick is the one I really want to read!

I don’t know how Alison keeps up with everything!!

For a light hearted, funny book read Gemma Halliday’s Killer in High Heels. Sometimes books have a way of making one feel down and depressed and you need to read someting more light hearted to get your mind off those other stories. I”m loving this book for that reason.

  14. Maggie Says:

It must be great to finsih a novel. Congrats

BEFORE I DIE sounds like a lurlene McDaniel weepie I read when I was a teen called SIX MONTHS TO LOVE, followed by the sequel SIX MONTHS TO DIE.
