A Bit Of Trivia

I took a quiz on AOL courtesy of Women’s Health. One of the questions asked why graham crackers were invented. You may think the answer has something to do with yummy goodness. Nope. Here’s the explanation:

Rev. Sylvester Graham led America in its first health food crusade. He bought into the widely spread notion that spicy foods contributed to lust, and vice versa. So in 1829 he introduced the spice-less snack to curb sexual desire.

Apparently Dr. Kellogg (the cornflakes guy) apparently believed the same thing.

People who profess things like the above always make me suspect. I wonder what they were up to behind closed doors.

I like learning little tidbits of trivia like this. You do have to wonder what exactly they thought was wrong with sexual desire.

This is the type of absolutely trivial information that I found in a book my coworkers got me for my graduation in May. The book was titled USELESS INFORMATION. I absolutely loved reading it. lol

It boggles my mind that the people most obsessed with sex (and inventing foods to combat lust is something I would categorize as obsessive) are the ones who are terrified of it.

And now you know why s’mores were invented—melty chocolate and gooey marshmallows were required to sex up graham crackers.

I always suspected graham crackers to have an ulterior motive to the usual yummy goodness. This is why there are no graham crackers in my house :-)
