I love writing books. This career allows me to work from home, set my own schedule and deduct expenses from my trips to Hawaii. Yeah, that last one is a biggie. This is what happens when you set a series of books in a favorite place like Kauai. Hell, I should set them all there. Hmmm….
My first Hawaii-set book, YOUR MOUTH DRIVES ME CRAZY, came out in 2007 and will be re-released in mass market (ie, less expensive) in March ‘09. The next, IT’S HOTTER IN HAWAII, comes out right after in April ‘09.
And why am I reminding you of this? That’s right. I have ARCs for IT’S HOTTER IN HAWAII. Leave a comment here about the series and/or our favorite setting for a romance novel and you’ll be entered to win one. I’ll pick the winner on New Year’s Day. You have until then to enter. Good luck!
UPDATE: Very sorry for being so tardy in announcing the winner. The winner is…NICOLE (comment #4). Congratulations!!! Email me with your address and I’ll get that ARC out to you next week.
Have company. Have a January 1st deadline. Still fighting a sinus infection. Basically, I’m swamped. To take us through the end of the year, I’ll launch a contest tomorrow. That might be it for a few days. Depends on how much work I can get done at night when the house is winding down, and how productive I am in non-internet activities during that time. We’ll see.
Check back tomorrow…
Thanks to all who stopped by for the daily giveaways. Today is winner announcement day.
[imagine a drumroll here]
The winner of PRE-NUP is… Naomi
The winner of VEIL OF MIDNIGHT is… Michelle (MG)
The winner of THE CLUB is… Margay
The winner of THE DEVIL’S DUE… Zara
Congratulations to all the winners!!! Please email me with your address information and I’ll get those books out to you soon.
I’ve admitted before that I’m totally lured in by covers. Every time I see a Jenna Black cover I do a doubletake. There’s something compelling about them. I’m not even sure they’re all that unique. It’s just that they work for me. Today we have more than the cover. The giveaway book is THE DEVIL’S DUE by Jenna Black. It goes like this:
Trust me or die…That’s the choice Morgan Kingsley, exorcist, is given by the gorgeous rogue demon who’s gotten inside her. The truth is, Morgan has dozens of reasons not to trust anyone, from the violence that torched her house and killed her father to a love life that’s left her questioning her relationship with her erstwhile boyfriend, Brian. But Lugh, a king among demons, won’t take no for an answer. He’s prying into her body, her mind, even her sex life. And he’s just pulled Morgan into a power struggle that could have devastating consequences for both the human and demon worlds.
But Morgan still has a job to do: investigating the highly bizarre possession of the son of a wealthy Philadelphia couple. That hunt leads Morgan into a realm of sexual depravity, then a terrifying kidnapping.… Now a woman who makes her living prying demons from their hosts finds her day job colliding with the night: a darkness that is attracting demons of the damnedest sort, including the one who’s about to demand his ultimate due.…

It’s up to you to come back and check. You can enter as many contests this week as you want but don’t do that thing where you use 14 different names because it drives me nuts.
Good luck!!
How about a super sexy Regency read? That is exactly what we have today. The book is THE CLUB by Sharon Page. I think this is Sharon’s first book for a new publisher. The cover is lush and the copy sounds good. But don’t believe me, see for yourself…
Enter a world of sin, scandal, and the most forbidden pleasures. Enter the seductive world of award-winning author Sharon Page, whose new novel will take your breath away with a tantalizing blend of Regency romance and erotic thrills.

You know how you read a series and think gee, I kind of wish I would have thought of that…? Even though I don’t write paranormals, I get that feeling from Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. In honor of that, today’s book giveaway is the upcoming VEIL OF MIDNIGHT by Lara Adrian.
Bound by blood, addicted to danger, they’ll enter the darkest—and most erotic—place of all.
A warrior trained in bullets and blades, Renata cannot be bested by any man—vampire or mortal. But her most powerful weapon is her extraordinary psychic ability—a gift both rare and deadly. Now a stranger threatens her hard-won independence—a golden-haired vampire who lures her into a realm of darkness…and pleasure beyond imagining.
A combat-loving adrenaline junkie, Nikolai dispenses his own justice to enemies of the Breed—and his latest quarry is a ruthless assassin. One woman stands in his way: the seductive, cool-as-ice bodyguard, Renata. But Renata’s powers are put to the test when a loved one, a child, is threatened and she’s forced to turn to Niko for help. As the two join forces, as desire fans the flames of a deeper hunger, Renata’s life is under siege by a man who offers the exquisite pleasure of a blood bond—and a passion that could save or doom them both forever.…

I am sick for what feels like the 300th straight week. Apparently sinus infections like to linger. I am now blasting it with a combination of antibiotics, steroids and pain killers. While I recuperate and generally feel sorry for myself – it’s pathetic, so be happy you aren’t here to see it – I thought I’d engage in a little holiday gift giving. For the rest of the week (excluding Christmas Day since you should all spend time with your families and not be playing online) I’m going to give away some books.
Today’s book is THE PRE-NUP by Beth Kendrick. In my former life as a divorce attorney I was considered an expert in these. I usually can’t read books that revolve around divorce and family law, but I’m excited to try this one. Now you can too.
All you need is love? For the residents of swanky Mayfair Estates, a pre-nup is just another item on the wedding to-do checklist—but three friends get more than they bargained for when they promise to love, cherish . . . and sign on the dotted line.
Ellie married her handsome, wealthy Prince Charming when she was young, naive, and willing to sign a one-sided pre-nup in the name of true love. But seven years and one toddler later, her happily-ever-after has come screeching to a halt. If she can’t save her marriage, she’s determined to save her divorce, and she’s not about to let a lot of legalese stand in her way.
When Jen married Eric, he knew she wasn’t head over heels. Still, he insisted that they were perfect together and even bankrolled her blossoming business. But when Jen’s career finally takes off, she realizes that she may lose her husband. If Eric leaves, Jen will lose everything—including the marriage she values more than she thought.
Up-and-coming attorney Mara is sure her fiancé has forgiven her for a foolish one-night fling—until he adds a “cheating clause” to the pre-nup she had demanded. If he really trusts her, why the clause? And if she’s really trustworthy, why is she objecting?
As romance collides with real life, three very different women turn to each other for moral support and insights about how to safeguard their most valuable assets: their hearts.

In case you haven’t already had your fill of Best of and Worst of lists for 2008 Entertainment Weekly has an entire issue dedicated to them. One of the more interesting is the Worst Books Of The Year list. I can honestly say I missed all of these:
Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisenberger – EW: “One possible silver lining to the recession: Readers might lose patience with vacuous fiction that revolves around sex and bling…” Me: Had no interest in this book. I’m fine with sex and bling but vacuous is never good. Still, I bet Weisenberger just rolled around in her money after reading this.
The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry – EW: “This Salem, Mass., mystery won Barry a reported $2 million advance. But that’s just about the only impressive thing about this book…” Me: I remember buzz over the sale because I think this was self-published then sold for huge money. But that’s pretty much the extent of my knowledge about this one.
The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson – EW: “…one of the biggest flops of the year.” Me: I know I don’t like the cover.
Bright Shiny Morning by James Frey – EW: “…reads like a rough draft…” Me: No comment.
A Wolf At The Table by Augusten Burroughs – EW: “…jumps the shark…” Me: Which proves my theory that three memoirs is too many. Honestly, I’ve never bought this guy’s story. Sounds as if EW didn’t buy this one.
Go forth and buy…or not.
