Question…

I’m speaking to the MFA candidates at UC Riverside next week. The topic is popular fiction…or something like that. Whenever I speak I take the position that I’ll answer any question. Nothing is really off limits. But I find that people are sometimes afraid to ask questions. So, if you could ask an author anything, what would it be? What would you want to know?

Okay, here is one… I mean we normally like to know how you came up with the idea for the book(s), did you see the ending coming… but here is one I have never asked anyone… Do you have dreams about your books… Like the steamy parts, or the conflicting parts. As a reader, I read when I am going to bed… so sooommmeee times, my dreams are about what I have read. But as the author… do you dream about the book… or when not writing (because we know everyone needs a break) do you “daydream” about your characters?

Why did you choose the genre you write in? What would you write if you didn’t have to worry about making money?

Man, my buddy Adam just graduated from there. Or is about to graduate? Otherwise, I’d say to say hi for me. :-)

Do your characters talk to you?

do your characters take you where you hadn’t plan on being in the book?

How do you choose physical traits for your characters?

have you ever started over when a book isn’t working for you?
