I managed to read Twilight. Writing aside, I could tell why it became popular. You do want to know what's going to happen next. The only thing that struck me as odd was that stalking was suddenly considered sexy. In a lot of ways, the first book reminded me of the forced seductions in 80's romances, if you left in the danger of violence and removed the sex.

Oh, I'm thrilled to see so many young adult titles on the list. Absolutely thrilled for SM. Doesn't matter if you love her stuff. You have to be in awe of what she's accomplished. Frankly, I just love to see people reading. Reading is contagious. You love something, tell your friends, you go out and buy more...and so on. It's all good.

My comment about waitressing had to do with the fact I don't write the kind of books that are making this list. Man, I wish I did. Not the non-fiction stuff because I have zero interest in writing that, but I'd love to write YA. I think it is soooo important to grab readers as soon as we can.

Liza, that's based on sales.

HelenKay, I would think you'd be pleased. Think of all the young romance readers SM has created! In a few years, these guys are going to be adults, and reading your stuff!

I read all of the Twilight series. I liked most of it. Although I found the second book New Moon rather slow and depressing until the action picked up a little at the end.. The Shack a Black woman as GOD was a stretch for me. I'm too set in my ways with my religious beliefs. I'm just starting The Symbol for a book group discussion. Palin's book YUCK! Can not stand her!! I saw an interview with Steve Harvey on CNN. He's a comedian.
I never even heard of Jeff Kinney! Is this a children' s series?
Where are the romance books? We do buy the most. Shouldn't we be in the top 10?

Is this list based on sales or does the reporter actually think these are the best books of 2009? I read all the Twilight books and own them, but not sure I would put them at the top of the best books of 2009. Woohoo for P.C. & Kristin Cast! I love their House of Night series.

Well, I want to say something like, to each his own, not everyone likes the same things, stuff like that. . . I'm also basically trying to refrain from saying a word about the number 10 choice because sure don't want to start anything political here and all. . . but anyway, the Twilight books there aren't much of a surprise, though I haven't touched a one myself. :) But on my bright side, went to the bookstore yesterday and got loads of stuff that I like that probably won't be on the 2010 top ten list, so I'm happy! :)
